Our Third Annual Fishing Contest results are in! Once again there were many quality fish submitted. Kenn Laundroche ends up tying the Lake Sherwood record with a 25-inch walleye. A great fish on any lake. On the pike front, a new Lake Sherwood record is entered by Dennis Dolin in from Indiana visiting his in-laws, the Tondreau’s. Dennis hoists a 37 incher for his travels. A lot of us residents are fishing long and hard in search of fish like that - a nice job by a visiting Hoosier. The Donnelly family boasts three entries as fishing knowledge is passed down from father to son to son. If Scott Donnelly is casting toward your dock as he navigates around the lake rest assured he won’t hit your dock or swim platform ... but he sure will get close. How do I know? Because his dad told me when Scott was 12 he entered the casting contest at Cobo Hall and beat out thousands of people to win the event. He won a trip to Lake Mead and got to fish with a professional fisherman. Scott’s son Zachary continues the tradition spending all his time looking to hook the big one.
The Senick family continues their dynasty with a trifecta by 7 year old Andy – a 24” walleye, an 18” bass and a huge 36” carp. The 36 incher ties the record for carp!
Below: Tim Pancioli, 10 years old, comes in big with nice walleye and pike entries. He poses with a couple of buddies and his twenty-inch walleye.
Why you should submit your catch in the 2002 Lake Sherwood Fishing Contest - Are the fish getting bigger, smaller, increasing in population or decreasing? By anglers reporting their catches, this helps us determine our stocking program or other actions for future years.
I continue to hear about other fine fish coming from our waters that were not entered in the contest. This year bring along that measuring tape and call or send in your entries. How many times have you or your kids or visitors caught a nice fish off your dock or from your boat only to go unrecognized? Why not give me a call or send in an entry form located on the LSA website. We don’t want to have any open categories in 2002.
Prizes! Prizes! Prizes! Trophies and a lure will be awarded to all “Winners” in the Youth category. In the Adult category, “Winners” receive a Certificate of Recognition (suitable for framing) and a high quality lure. The “Winners” are as follows:
